If Hori can release the same controller, but with a slightly larger d-pad size and refine it a bit more then this would have been the ultimate fight pad. But for Street Fighter 2 games the d-pad doesn't work well. With Street Fighter 5, King of Fighters 98 and most other games the dpad and controller in general is quite good. Even better, Play-Asia had the controller on sale at the time along with shockingly. However, I've noticed for almost all modern games where the input timing is less demanding, this controller functions quite well. After surveying some folks online, the HORI Fighting Commander 4 emerged as a good option I wanted a pad more than another stick right now, it was backwards compatible with the PS3, and my experience with HORI products has been overwhelmingly positive. And doing dragon punches is a bit harder in street fighter 2 games. You might end up jumping by accident when trying to do something else. But this smaller size does sometimes make it harder to make moves for a retro game like Street Fighter 2. The size of this Octa D-pad is about the same size as an Xbox 360 controller, however it functions much better than an xbox 360 dpad. But the issue the d-pads size is a bit small and definitely smaller than previous hori ones. It does feel very different from previous hori d-pads in that it has less travel, which isn't a bad thing. I never liked the previous hori fightpad where it bulges out a bit more to the sides. The shape of the controller is also very good with the sides of the controller sloping straight down, which I prefer. With this button assign feature you can now assign a workable function to that button to solve the problem. I also really like the button assign feature, which solves a big problem with the R2 button on the front normally not working in retro SNES and Genesis games as they never had an R2 button. It's combination of micro switches and the shorter travel of the buttons make them noticably faster and more responsive than previous Hori fightpads. The front 6 buttons using micro switches are very good. It's a love/hate relationship with this controller. I'd give a 3.5 star to this product if Amazon allows. ![]()
